Actor Tom Budge has left Prime Video’s upcoming Lord of the Rings series. The highly anticipated show recently resumed production in New Zealand, after shutting down in March of 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. While the shooting location is the same as Peter Jackson’s films, the new series will be set 3,000 years before the original trilogy and The Hobbit.
Budge surprised fans when he took to Instagram to announce that he would no longer be involved with the project. The Australian actor revealed that he left the series after shooting over the past year. Without going into too much detail, he noted that his character would be going in a different direction.

Amazon has given The Lord of the Rings series a lot of backing. It has already been renewed for season two and has a five-season commitment. The project has a $500 million budget, the largest one in television history.
