After a year completely devoid of any Marvel releases, Disney+ Hotstar is quickly becoming the place to go for all things Marvel. There’s ton of Marvel shows headed to the platform in 2021. Here’s what we know about the upcoming Marvel series line-up.
‘WandaVision’
The series reunites Wanda and Vision, the cyborg-metahuman couple that was tragically torn apart in the MCU films in a trippy and surreal adventure that takes inspiration from retro sitcoms, complete with commercials. Since Vision died in Infinity War before the snap, he cannot be resurrected. This begs the question of how the pair’s unlikely romance will continue in the show. It’s currently streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
Cast: Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany
‘The Falcon And The Winter Soldier’
WandaVision has a lot riding on it in terms of setting up the new slate of movies in Marvel’s phase four. In a similar fashion, the small-screen outing of the Falcon and the Winter Soldier will likely also deal with future narratives tying in to the movies. We believe the story might involve Falcon struggling with taking up the mantle of Captain America following his retirement in Avengers: Endgame. However, Marvel has been tight-lipped as far as the plot is concerned.
Cast: Daniel Brühl, Desmond Chiam, John Gettier
Release: Monday, March 15
‘Hawkeye’
In this upcoming series Hawkeye, the Avengers’ marksman, passes the torch to a young successor. Hailee Steinfeld is set to play the role of the young archery protégé, Kate Bishop. We also have some idea about the main villain of the series. We currently don’t have a date, but the show is scheduled for a 2021 release.
Cast: Jeremy Renner, Hailee Steinfeld
‘What If…?’
An animated series that explores what would have happened if events in the MCU had gone differently. This will allow Marvel to tell interesting alternate timeline stories. What if the other half of the world died after Thanos’ snap? What if Captain America had not contested the Sokovia Accords and superheroes were subject to government approval? What if Iron Man 3 was a better movie?
Cast: Jeffrey Wright
‘Loki’
A series following Thor’s villainous brother Loki in six episodes. The series arc is set to be one of redemption for all of Loki’s skullduggery in previous MCU films. It looks like Disney and Marvel are going all in on this one because it’s already been renewed for a second season.
Cast: Tom Hiddleston, Sophia Di Martino, Richard E. Grant
Release: May
‘She-Hulk’
This particular series is an intriguing one. It’s set to be a legal comedy consisting of half-hour episodes featuring She-Hulk.
Cast: Taiana Maslany
