Netflix has quietly been amassing a huge catalogue of original anime, including the successful Pacific Rim: The Black. The platform has a ton of animated original shows and feature films in the pipeline for 2021. The streaming giant recently released a teaser for its latest upcoming original anime series Yasuke which tells the story of the first black samurai. The titular samurai was a real historical figure who lived in Japan during the 16th century. The series will star and be executively produced by LaKeith Stanfield. Despite the anime being based on true events, Yasuke will take place in a fictionalised alternate take version of feudal Japan filled with mechs and magic.
In its summary Netflix describes the anime as set in war-torn feudal Japan The story will see the swordsman Yasuke, described as the greatest ronin never known, struggling to leave his life of violence behind and find peace.
Yasuke drops to Netflix Thursday, April 29.
