Drishyam 2: The Resumption is a sequel to the 2013 blockbuster hit movie Drishyam. Featuring Mohanlal, Meena, Ansiba Hassan, and Esther Anil in lead roles, Drishyam 2 is written and directed by Jeethu Joseph, who also directed the prequel. The lead actors reprised their roles from the original and this sequel is touted to take place after 6 years. Drishyam was a cult classic and was remade in all major languages. It has been a blockbuster in whatever language the movie was remade. While the makers have originally planned to release this movie in theatres, the Covid-19 pandemic played a spoilsport. Finally, it is releasing on OTT platform, Amazon Prime, skipping the theatrical release.
Drishyam 2 is an extension to the prequel
The story of Drishyam 2 begins after 6 years from where Drishyam ends. In the turn of events, Georgekutty (Mohanlal) is now wealthier and has opened a cinema theatre. He also plans to produce a movie, making his neighborhood feel jealous. His daughters grew up and the elder one is ready for marriage. The police are still on a mission to solve the death mystery of Varun. Will they succeed this time?
Mohanlal is at his usual best and so is the rest of the cast
Mohanlal aka Lalettan comes up with yet another remarkable performance. If Drishyam is remembered as one of his finest movies, the sequel joins the list as well. Just like the original, Mohanlal was again a wholesome treat. Meena, Ansiba Hassan, and Esther Anil performed well. Murali Gopy has a meaty role and pulls it off with ease. Rest of the cast were apt in their respective roles.
Jeethu Joseph recreates the magic again
While it is not at all an easy task to live up to the hype of a fitting sequel to the masterpiece, Drishyam 2 excels by large. Jeethu Joseph comes up with yet another brilliant writing and has weaved it neatly to engage the audience till the last minute. The movie begins in a slow pace like the prequel and gets interesting with the interval twist. The twists and turns in the last hour keep you entirely hooked to your seats. The last 15 minutes showcases the brilliance of Jeethu Joseph as a director. While his writing is rock solid, the sequences amplifying Georgekutty’s plans came out well. The music and background score by Anil Johnson was good and so is Satheesh Kurup’s camera work. The artwork and production values are up to the mark. Editing by VS Vinayak is crisp.
WATCH OR NOT
Drishyam 2 is certainly a worthy sequel to Drishyam and is a big miss for theatres. The writing is as solid as the prequel and meets our expectations. Block your calendar for a 153 minutes thrilling experience this weekend and you will not be disappointed.
