The first edition of the Filmfare OTT awards were held this weekend. The awards aimed at recognising excellence in India’s rapidly growing OTT space. Three Amazon original series, The Family Man, Paatal Lok and Panchayat bagged top honours at the ceremony. Here is the list of the winners.
Many fans were outraged that Scam 1992 was not among the winners at the awards. The SonyLIV original series is a biographical drama that charts the rise and fall of infamous stockbroker Harshad Mehta, and has been one of the most loved web series of the year. Read our review here.

Filmfare snubbing Scam 1992 in it’s OTT awards is the biggest scam of the year.

Before we dive into conspiracy theories, the explanation to this is simpler than one thinks. The awards were applicable only to those series and films that released on streaming platforms from August 1, 2019 to July 31, 2020. Scam 1992 dropped on SonyLIV on October 9, 2020 and was thus not in consideration for this year’s awards.
The show’s director Hansal Mehta took to Twitter to clarify this.
Seeing many tweets echoing similar sentiments. #Scam1992 was released much after the cutoff date for this year’s #FilmfareOTTAwards. Hence it was not eligible for nomination. Our biggest award is the love we continue to receive from you. https://t.co/UA5kAZNWa4

Scam 1992 will be in contention for next year’s edition of the Filmfare OTT Awards, and has every chance of winning big.
