These 4 South Stars Have Been Lighting Up Indian Web Series

If you’ve been watching dubbed or subtitled versions of movies in southern languages, then you’re familiar with these stars. They’re big down south and, with the boom in Hindi streaming content, they’ve forayed into web series. Here are four south stars who’ve made a mark in Hindi television. The good part is that three of them are in one show.

Neeraj Madhav in ‘The Family Man’

Neeraj Madhav is an actor, rapper and dancer predominantly known for his work in Malayalam cinema. He has featured in films like Drishyam, 1983 and Oru Mexican Aparatha. His role of Moosa Rehman in Amazon’s The Family Man was greatly appreciated by the audience, and he will be seen again in the second season that releases this year. Nithya Menen in ‘Breathe: Into The Shadows’

Actor and singer Nithya Menen has been a part of Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil and Kannada films since 2006 and has been the recipient of three Filmfare awards. She made her Bollywood debut in 2019 with the Akshay Kumar-starrer Mission Mangal, and her digital debut last year opposite Abhishek Bachchan in Amazon Prime Video’s psychological thriller Breathe: Into The Shadows. She plays Abha Sabharwal, a doting mother whose child gets kidnapped. She will go to any length to get her daughter back. Read our review of the series here. In an interview, Menen revealed that she’s also working on a Telugu web series for Amazon Prime Video, as well as the next season of Breathe.

Priyamani in ‘The Family Man’

National award winner Priyamani is best known for her work in Telugu, Kannada, Tamil and Malayalam films. Her notable works include Raam (2009), Raavan (2010), Raavanan (2010), Chaarulatha (2012) and Idolle Ramayana (2016). In The Family Man she plays Suchitra, an ambitious woman who must juggle her career and the demands of her two children with little help from her husband (Manoj Bajpayee).

Samantha Akkineni in ‘The Family Man’

Samantha Akkineni (pictured above) is among the reigning stars of the Tamil and Telugu film industries today, with films like Ye Maaya Chesave (Telugu), Eega (Telugu), Kaththi (Tamil) and Neethaane En Ponvasantham (Tamil) in her kitty. She is now making her foray into Hindi web series with the second season of The Family Man. We get a peek of her character Raji in the upcoming season’s teaser. Not much is known about her character, but buzz is that she plays a terrorist.
