“Sahi aur galat ke beech jo cheez aa kar khadi ho jaati hai, usse rajneeti kehte hai.” (There’s a thin line that separates the right and the wrong. This line is called politics). This is the underlying theme of Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming original Tandav. Right and wrong often get intertwined in the political world, where battles for power run aplenty.
The trailer of Tandav, which dropped today, features Saif Ali Khan as Samar Pratap Singh, a young neta with gigantic ambition. However, his father and the country’s prime minister, played by Tigmanshu Dhulia, is wary of his hunger for power. He describes Samar as a potential dictator who could kill democracy and divide the nation. As luck would have it, the PM passes away and now Samar must ascend to the throne. Of course, this isn’t going to be a cakewalk, as there are rivals looking to upstage him. Among these is a senior leader of the party played by Kumud Mishra, and Dimple Kapadia who appears to be an enemy in the garb of an ally. Also starring in the series is Sunil Grover in a never-seen-before badass avatar who’s apparently Samar’s cunning enforcer.
Tandav also touches upon the theme of student politics, with Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub playing a young student leader in a university campus.
Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, the nine-part series promises themes of inherent deceit, manipulation, greed, ambition and violence in the world of politics. Tandav will stream from Friday, January 15 on Amazon Prime Video.
