Season four of everybody’s favourite Regency-era drama, The Crown, has promised, via its teasers and posters, that the monarchy will face challenges. And the newly dropped official trailer delivers on the promise in the form of Margaret Thatcher (Gillian Anderson) and Lady Diana Spencer (Emma Corrin). The former is comfortable making enemies as she introduces divisive policies across the United Kingdom while the latter is simply looking for love in the wrong places.
We just know we’re in for a treat with just a few glimpses of the tension-soaked interactions between The Iron Lady and Queen Elizabeth II (Olivia Colman), inarguably two of Britain’s most powerful women. Their scenes are complemented by the fairytale romance between Prince Charles (Josh O’Connor) and Diana that doesn’t have a happily ever after. Diana’s spiritedness is seen as a cause of concern by the Queen who worries that she will not bend to the will of the crown. There is an eerie sense of foreboding (everyone knows the story) as Princess Margaret (Helena Bonham Carter) promises that if she doesn’t, “She will break.”
Season 4 of The Crown premieres on Netflix on Sunday, November 15.
