Amazon Prime Video’s The Family Man has been voted the best Indian web series by readers in a poll conducted by BookMyShow Buzz.
The poll featured 16 of the most popular Indian series that released on or before June 30, 2020. A total of 3,820 votes were received of which The Family Man emerged a clear winner, sitting comfortably ahead of second-placed Paatal Lok. Gangster drama Mirzapur finished a close third.
The Family Man released in September last year to a great reception from the audience and critics alike. The second season is expected to hit our screens later this year. Created by the duo of Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK, the series is an espionage thriller in which the protagonist Srikant Tiwari (Manoj Bajpayee) leads a double life. To his wife and kids, he is a middle-class, overworked government employee who struggles to balance his work and family life. Unknown to them is the fact that he is a brilliant intelligence officer constantly tackling terror threats on the country. What makes the show so popular, perhaps, is that it balances a complex and intense plot with plenty of humour and light moments, making it a not-too-heavy watch. Read our review of the show here.
The poll affirms Amazon as the leading player for Indian content on OTT, with four of the top five ranked shows belonging to the platform.
The result also indicates that crime is the most-preferred genre on streaming platforms, with crime dramas performing considerably better than other shows. In fact, only one non-crime show (TVF’s Panchayat) featured in the top eight on the poll.
