Co-created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, Nickelodeon’s Avatar: The Last Airbender was one of the most popular cartoons of the 2000s. The series spawned a popular spinoff series in 2012 called The Legend of Korra.
What’s the story?
The live-action remake will follow the plot of its animated counterpart.
Are the original creators involved?
The original creators were working with Netflix on the live-action adaptation. However, back in August 2020, we learned that they had left the project over creative differences.
How far along is the show?
Unfortunately, we don’t have any concrete information on the current state of the production, but in March of 2020, we know that it was experiencing delays due to the pandemic. Konietzko posted this update on his Instagram
“In other news, sorry for the lack of updates on the live action adaptation of ATLA. It’s been a slow process, slower than expected. But VERY exciting things are in the works on the project… Hang in there. We’ll share some info as soon as we can. 💙⬇️💙 But there are more important things going on in the world… It is surely going to be a rough ride for the next few months, at least. 💙 So, again, let’s all try to take care.”

When will we see it?
Considering the current state of the film and TV industry due to the pandemic, a release date is probably a long way off. We’re unlikely to see a release in 2021.
