The Umbrella Academy star Elliot Page came out as transgender in an open letter posted to Twitter. Read the full letter below:

The letter is a heartfelt message expressing gratitude for the support he has received. Page also took the opportunity to speak out about discrimination by “those with a massive platform who continue to spew hostility towards the trans community.” Though he doesn’t name anyone, Page might be referring to Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling and her anti-trans comments.
The Oscar-nominated actor first distinguished himself in the 2005 film Hard Candy, playing a teenager who enacts revenge on a man who kidnaps young girls. However, Page earned his Oscar nomination for 2007’s Juno, in which he played a quirky high school student who suddenly has to decide how to deal with an unwanted pregnancy. More recently, Page has been one of the main cast of Netflix’s dysfunctional superhero show The Umbrella Academy, playing Vanya Hargreeves. Season one followed the family in their mission to prevent the apocalypse and get over their childhood trauma. The Umbrella Academy season two released this year and had the Hargreeves siblings navigating 1960s America. The show was recently renewed for a third season at Netflix.
