WandaVision episode five’s surprising Quicksilver cameo was an early idea when crafting the MCU series, according to series creator Jac Schaeffer. Episode five aptly entitled ‘On A Very Special Episode…’, has Vision (Paul Bettany) confronting Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) about their constructed reality. Before the argument can escalate, the doorbell rings. Wanda answers the door to see her dead brother Pietro, also known as Quicksilver. However, the real surprise is that this is not the character played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson in Avengers: Age Of Ultron. This is the Quicksilver from Fox’s X-Men movies, which took place outside of the MCU canon. He’s played by Evan Peters, best known for American Horror Story.
“We loved the idea of bringing him (Evan Peters) back and then we were like, how in the world are we going to make this make logical sense? Like, how do we justify this? Because that’s the thing, you can hatch a million great ideas, but to make them land, to make them be grounded, to make them feel organic to the larger story.”
The appearance of the X-Men Quicksilver rocked Marvel fandom, with many speculating as to whether his appearance opens the door for the X-Men films to be tied into the MCU. The major theory is that they would integrate these films through the multiverse, which is set to be explored in Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness as well as the next Spider-Man film.
