This year was a washout for most of us, but it’s certainly been an eventful one for Vir Das. The stand-up comedian and actor already has a Netflix special and a web series in his kitty in 2020. He is now set to end the year on a high as Netflix gears up to stream his lockdown special Outside In from Wednesday, December 16.
Originally titled Inside Out, the lockdown special was filmed between March and July 2020, streamed as a special for charity on Das’ website back in August this year. Comprising 30 different shows, the 50-minute edit was all about Vir Das asking his audience one question: what’s the first thing you’re going to do once the world reopens?

The lockdown has put each one of us through a lot and the show attempts to both capture this emotion and try to spread some hope, love and laughter. Outside In serves to unite us as an audience. From a boy who just wants to get his hands on some ice-cream to couples who have been separated due to the lockdown, it tells various heart-warming stories.
In a statement made to India Today Das said, “There couldn’t have been a better way to end the year and I say this beyond my personal reasons. The special was a showreel of everything that we’ve gone through this year and how as human beings we went through the same emotions at the same time. It was my most fulfilling piece of work because even for an hour I could make people smile when they needed it the most. And we raised money for charity while doing it. This special is dedicated to each of us who survived a horrific year and hopefully we carry forward the lessons to 2021.”
Outside In is Vir Das’ fourth special on Netflix after Abroad Understanding (2017), Losing It (2018) and For India (2020). Besides he also co-wrote and starred in Hasmukh (2020), a dark comedy series for the platform.
