We’re celebrating Women this week on the occasion of Women’s day, and while Women need to be celebrated at all times, we wanted to take the time to honour them. So today we wanted to give you a different kind of watch-recommendation. Check out these documentaries that are all women-centric as they give us a glimpse into some empowering, inspirational, and gut-wrenching stories. These documentaries shed light on the different issues women face in society.
Gulabi Gang
This inspirational documentary follows Sampat Pal Devi, a fiery woman who started the Gulabi Gang to empower women and fight against gender violence, caste oppression, and widespread corruption. These stories come straight to you from the heart of India, aims to take on toxic mindsets with a fresh wave of passion and freedom.

This is another powerful documentary that follows a group of local women who learn how to operate a machine that makes low-cost, biodegradable sanitary pads which they then sell to other women at affordable prices. This documentary not only deals with the initiative to support feminine hygiene but also, empowers women to leave behind old mindsets and break the taboo that surrounds menstruation. The film is inspired by Arunachalam Muruganantham’s life, a social activist from Tamil Nadu, India.

India’s Daughter
We’ve all heard about this incident that has made us sick to our stomach, the 2012 Delhi gang rape, and murder of 23-year-old Nirbhaya. This documentary shows our nation and even the international community uniting together and demand justice for the horrific and heinous crime committed by six men, four of which were recently hung. This film is told through reconstructed footage and interviews.

This film follows three young women who are struggling to keep their dreams afloat amid family pressures to get married. We get to take a deeper look into an issue that persists till today, women being forced into marriage so that society has something to talk about. This documentary follows the life of archer Deepika Kumar.
