Premiering in August 2020, Lovecraft Country presented audiences with socially conscious ode to classic horror. The show managed to turn the racist overtones of genre-defining horror author H.P. Lovecraft on its head. The series follows Atticus Freeman (Jonathan Majors) on a journey with his friend Letitia (Jurnee Smollett) and his uncle George (Courtney B. Vance). The trio takes road trip across 1950s America in search of Atticus’ missing father. On the way, they face horrors of all kinds, both human and supernatural.
While the show hasn’t been officially renewed for a second outing on HBO and Disney+ Hotstar, showrunner Misha Green is working on a plan for a new set of episodes.
“Misha is working with a small team of writers and they’re coming up with a take. She had a book to go on in the first season, she and the writers wanted to go off and take some time to go out and figure out without a book with these characters, what’s the journey we want to go on. We all want to be sure she’s got a story to tell. That’s where she is right now, working on those ideas. I’m very hopeful, as is Misha, so we’re giving them the time to work” (via Deadline)
