5 Controversial Movies of Madhur Bhandarkar You Must Watch Before Indu Sarkar!

One film maker who has had a tumultuous relationship with the Censor Board for Film Certification is Madhur Bhandarkar. The director knows how to be in the bad books of CBFC. It is not the first time his movie (this time its Indu Sarkar) has received flak from the censor board. In fact, most of his films had to battle it out with the censor board to see the light of the day. Before you watch his upcoming political period drama, Indu Sarkar, in cinemas this Friday, here's a look at five of his hard-hitting films, that had not gone down well with the CBFC, but the viewers and critics simply loved them all.

1. Chandni Bar Released way back in 2001,Chandni Bar was the movie that brought this gem of a film maker to the limelight. Many think that that this was his debut movie, but the fact is Chandni Bar was Bhandarkar's second movie. He debuted with the movie Trishakti a few years before. Based on the controversial life of bar dancers in Mumbai, Chandni Bar is still considered as one of his finest films in its genre. It also won its lead actress Tabu a National Award for Best Actress.

2. Satta – The Game of Power If you thought that Indu Sarkar will be Bhandarkar's first political drama, then you are wrong! Released in 2003, starring Raveena Tandon in the lead role, Satta – The Game of Power was Bhandarkar's first tryst with the big bad world of politics in India. Raveena gave one of her best performances ever in this political drama, where she started as a reluctant player in politics to being the most shrewd champion in the game.

3. Page 3 Based on the darker side of the page 3 parties in metro cities, Page 3 was a huge hit. The lead actress,Konkana Sen was much praised for her performance. Even the supporting cast that included, Atul Kulkarni, Upendra Limaye, Boman Irani and Sandhya Mridul were simply out standing!

4. Fashion One of the best works of Bhandarkar, Fashion won many accolades. Set against the glamorous but ruthless world of fashion, the movie featured Priyanka Chopra and Kangana Ranaut in the lead roles. Both the actresses won the National Award for their superb performances in the film, exposing the hard reality of the fashion world.

5. Heroine The Kareena Kapoor starrer, Heroine, released in 2012, used Bollywood as a backdrop. Madhur tried to show the harsh reality behind a superstar's glamorous personality. Though the movie didn't match up to the expectation and hype, the various controversies associated with it kept the movie in the memories of viewers for long.
