It's been a decade now since the Indian Cricket team was thrown out of the ICC World Cup after losing to the easy sides, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Also it was a time when players like Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, Virender Sehwag and everyone’s favourite, Sachin Tendulkar, were in prominence. Prior to the World Cup, India had been in good form in ODIs, having won series in Sri Lanka and West Indies, and were regarded as favourites all the way in the tournament. In the previous World Cup, Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar was already awarded with the Golden Bat for scoring most runs in the tournament and was favourite too this time.
Sachin Tendulkar, who was part of the team in 2007, was in bad form that tournament and in a recent statement has revealed about his breakdown. He has said that he even considered quitting the game after the tournament and it was the worst moment of his career. He was shaken and felt terrible, that the game which has shown him the best days of his life, was now showing him the worst. Well, it is shocking to hear that from Sachin himself, as he has been a prodigy to the game and one of the most successful cricketers and sportsmen of all time across the world.
The 2007 World Cup was obviously not good for Team India. India suffered blows from both the neighbouring countries and the confidence of this star player was shaken. Though what followed next changed the course of actions for him. The great West Indian player, Sir Vivian Richards, gave him a call and convinced him to get back to the game. Richards also told Sachin that he has a lot of cricket left in him and there is no point in retirement. Well, we all should be thankful to him as after that Sachin didn’t ever look back and continued to break every record as the years progressed! India’s improvement after the 2007 fiasco can be marked by the fact that they won the 2011 World Cup and that was something that Tendulkar has described as the greatest moment of his cricketing career.
There is a lot to learn from his career for each and every one of us and it was just recently that Sachin opened up and told us about this incident. We are sure that Sachin Tendulkar’s upcoming movie - Sachin: A Billion Dreams, upon releasing on 26th May, 2017 will get a huge response from the audience, not only in India, but worldwide too.
