The summer season is famous in India as it’s the season of mangoes. Everyone loves mangoes. But summers are not just limited to providing us this mouthwatering fruit, it also brings us the best cricketing tournament of the year- Indian Premier League (IPL). This league incepted in 2007 and since then it has been one of the most liked sports event in the world. Every cricket fan in the world is either in the IPL stadiums in India or watching the live telecasts on their television sets. It is such a game that gives people a chance to support their own teams, make bonds over the matches and have great time after their usual monotonous life. The beauty of the game lies in the T20 format of the game and that it gets over within a short duration of 4 hours. The game has now been played already for more than three weeks and some of the teams are doing exceptionally well.
At this point of time, it’s quite difficult to guess the top four teams who would play the playoffs. We are just half way through and we have seen quite big upsets already in the tournament. RCB is at the bottom of the points table and are most likely to get knocked out of the tournament. Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle of Royal Challengers Bangalore are in terrible form and have been out of the cricketing show they were always known for. Gujarat Lions in spite of having big hitters like Suresh Raina, Brendon McCullum and Aaron Finch, are second last in the points table. The foreign players have also been contributing a lot to the IPL 2017 and are helping big time in upping the standards of the game along with Indian local talent.
Hashim Amla, star South African batsman, is a part of Kings Xi Punjab and holds the highest individual score of 104* against Mumbai Indians on last saturday. He has played 7 matches in the current IPL season and has scored 299 runs cumulatively. The second noted batsman in the tournament is David Warner who plays for Australia and is in Sunrisers Hyderabad who has scored 282 runs with the help of 10 sixes in 7 matches. In the bowling department, Chris Morris from South Africa is playing for Delhi Daredevils and has been performing really good in the league. He has bagged 12 wickets in 6 matches and has also scored 126 runs. Another star bowler of the tournament in Andrew Tye from Australia who holds the record for the best bowling figures in IPL 2017 of 5/17. He is in Gujarat Lions this season and is doing pretty well.
It will be a big deal for teams like Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians who are topping the points table with 12 points each and all the players to continue performing the way they are now and carry the momentum to the end of the league. If you really are a big IPL fan and want to support your team till the end of times, well book your tickets for upcoming IPL matches and do the typical dance moves on the song Yeh Das Saal Aapke Naam!
