Based on the famous novel of Chetan Bhagat of the same name, Half Girlfriend, which is slated to release this Friday is a romantic drama, starring Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor. Directed by Mohit Suri , this is the second time Arjun Kapoor has been cast as the leading man of Chetan's story. He played the lead character of the movie adaptation of another Bhagat novel, Two States, when it was adopted on screen by Abhishek Verman in 2014. The trailer of Half Girlfriend, which was released last month, gives a feel of the extended version of the Two States story.
Following the theme of ‘unrequited love’, Half Girlfriend will see Arjun Kapoor playing a Bihari student, Madhav Jha, who takes admission in one of the top colleges of Delhi University. He is in love with a Delhi Girl, Riya Somani (Shraddha Kapoor), studying in the same college. They both click over the game of basketball, but the things get complicated when Riya only accepts half the offer and becomes Madhav's Half girlfriend. We have seen Arjun Kapoor playing a small town boy in Tewar and Ishaqzaade, so the character of Madhav comes easy to him. The film also stars Seema Biswas and Vikrant Massey in pivotal roles.
The music of the film has been ruling the chartbusters ever since its release and we won't be surprised if the music does better than what the movie is expected to do and weaves magic like Aashiqui 2 and Mohit Suri’s previous films. The songs are composed by Mithoon, Rishi Rich, Arko, Ami Mishra and the Pakistani singer, Farhan Saeed. Arijit Singh has sung a couple of songs in the album and the track ‘Main Phir Bhi Tumko Chahunga’, which features in the trailer, is just magical.
This is the fifth time one of Chetan Bhagat's novels has been adopted on screen. All his books have got an instant connection with the readers. The movies also got a good response from the viewers. For the first time, Chetan Bhagat has got himself involved in the production process and has co-produced the film along with Mohit Suri and Balaji Telefilms . Half Girlfriend has all the elements of a hit film – two charismatic young actors, a director who is considered as an expert in helming a passionate love story, magical music and a story from a hit novel.
