Deepika Padukone will be paired opposite her Piku co-star, Irrfan Khan once again. She might be busy with her next film, Padmavati, but it is her next Bollywood film which she has signed, that piqued the interest of fans. Vishal Bhardwaj is all set to cast Deepika Padukone with Irrfan Khan in his next production, which will be a period drama. After introducing director Abhishek Chaubey with Udta Punjab, Vishal Bharadwaj launches another new director, Honey Trehan with this gangster movie.
This untitled movie is based on Femme Fatale, a part of S. Hussain Zaidi’s novel titled, “Mafia Queens of Mumbai”, which narrates the story of Rahima Khan who decides to kill the underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, after the don murdered her husband. Known popularly as Sapna didi, she plans the perfect plot to assassinate Ibrahim, only to be caught by the don, who kills her before she executes her plan. Deepika plays Rahima Khan in the film, while Irrfan plays a local gangster. The shooting will kick off in January and the film will be ready to release in October, next year. This is the first time Deepika Padukone will be working with Vishal Bhardwaj.
While this is the first time Deepika Padukone will be working with Vishal Bhardwaj, for Irrfan it is his fifth collaboration with him, following Maqbool in 2001, Saat Khoon Maaf in 2014, and Haider and Talvar in 2015. As for Deepika and Irrfan, after enthralling the audiences with their light and breezy chemistry in Shoojit Sarkar's Piku, they will once again set expectations high with this gangster drama. Will they be able to recreate Piku magic?
The National Award winning actor, Irrfan Khan, was last seen in critically acclaimed film, Hindi Medium. The film proved to be a hit at the box office and connected with the audiences. He is currently busy with his next film shooting with Kapil Sharma, for Firangi. Deepika Padukone is also busy shooting for Padmavati with Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh. Both of them will start the shooting of Bhardwaj's gangster drama from January next year.
We liked this jodi in Piku, and hope they recreate that magic again in this Vishal Bhardwaj movie, which is expected to release around Diwali next year!
