In the 18th edition of Mumbai Film Festival, JIO Mami, there's a special film to be screened. Superstar Shah Khan's unreleased film, Ahamaq of 1991 is to be screened this year at JIO Mami, which is to be held between from 20th-27th October. Once again, stage is set to celebrate some of the best of Indian and global cinema. This year's festival is also special as the opening ceremony on 20th will mark the re-launch of the Iconic Royal Opera House, India's only surviving Opera House which was once considered as the cultural heartbeat of Mumbai.

Spread over a week, Jio Mami Fest will feature close to 200 films. The fest will be opened with Konkona Sensharma’s directorial debut film, A Death in the Gunj. Starring some prominent Indian actors like Vikrant Massey, Kalki Koechlin, Tillotama Shome, Gulshan Devaiah, Ranvir Shorey and yesteryear legends, Om Puri and Tanuja, the film is based on true events. A Death in the Gunj was also screened at the 41st Toronto Film Festival where it garnered a lot of acclaim.

But the film that is hogging the limelight this year at the Mumbai Film Festival is Shah Rukh Khan's unreleased movie of 1991, Ahamaq. Directed by film maker Mani Kaul, this film was released as a four part TV series on Doordarshan in 1991, before being screened at the New York Film Festival in 1992. This film was never released commercially. Ahamaq will be screened at the Jio MAMI Film Festival this year in the newly introduced programme ‘The New Medium.’ The unedited film will be screened as a four hour film. The film also have Meeta Vashist and the cinematography is given by Piyush Shah. 'Ahamaq' is based on Fyodor Dostoevsky's novel “The Idiot”

The new section in the festival this edition, “The New Medium” is curated by artist Shaina Anand. This section will be opened with the film, 'Man with the Movie Camera' which is the restored version of Dziga Vertov 1929 classic. The film will be accompanied by a live performance by Vitaly Tkachuk Quartet from Ukraine. This section is introduced to showcase the best in innovative film-making by scouring the living history of cinema - from its inception to the contemporary moment.
