If you move away from the shadows of mainstream Bollywood cinema, you’ll come across a host of good movies that release every year. Some getting the accolade they deserve, while others getting lost in the sea of movies altogether. One such movie was Jolly LLB, and luckily for us it fell in the former category. Starring Arshad Warsi and Boman Irani in the lead, the movie was far from being a mainstream Bollywood cinema. But the tight script and the satirical humour helped catapult it into fame. It received rave reviews from the critics as well as the audience, with many enjoying the dark humour. The movie became a huge success, so much so that it prompted the makers to come up with a sequel.
Three years after the first movie came out, the preview of the sequel The State vs Jolly LLB 2 is here at last. Filling in the shoes of the two sparring lawyers is Akshay Kumar and Annu Kapoor.
This upcoming Hindi movie retains some of the humour from Jolly LLB while adding in a few more witty rejoinders and one liners. But the fun and light atmosphere isn’t meant to last for long, with the preview eventually taking a dark turn.
While in Jolly LLB Arshad Warsi’s character goes looking for a controversial case to fight on, the sequel gives you the impression that Akshay’s character gets handed the case making him seem a bit hesitant at first.
While the first half of the movie is humorous and funny, the second part is grim and serious. It shows Jolly embarking on a case that will pit him against corrupt politicians, eventually causing turmoil in his life. Huma Qureshi will be seen in the movie as well, portraying the love interest of Akshay Kumar. Saurabh Shukla will be seen reprising his role as Justice Sunderlal Tripathi. There are talks of Arshad Warsi making a cameo appearance as everyone’s favourite lawyer Jagdish Tyagi, but in what capacity that will be is yet unknown.
So far the verdict on The State vs Jolly LLB 2 is a positive one, creating a favourable anticipation for the release on this movie in February of next year.
