The origins of music can be traced as far back as civilization itself. Even before language existed, music existed. Music is the dialect of the soul. It can express feelings and emotions, help people connect, and do all of this simply through beats and rhythms. Over the years, music has evolved, branching into various types and categories each differing based on their place of origin. One such branch of music happens to be Indian Classical Music.

The genre of Indian Classical Music further has two traditions, the North Indian stream called Hindustani music and the South Indian expression called Carnatic music. Both Hindustani and Carnatic music are distinct, with their own nuances. There’s no doubt that when heard individually they’re nothing short of exceptional. But when brought together, that’s when the real magic happens. And that’s exactly what you can expect at the Celebrate Life Concert in Chennai.

Chennai isn’t a stranger to musical events, but this one promises to be epic. The Celebrate Life music concert brings together three musical legends; Ustad Zakir Hussain, Jayanthi Kumaresh and Kumaresh Rajagopalan. Ustad Zakir Hussain is a name that is recognized globally. Not only is he a renowned Tabla player, but has also made successful forays into world music and jazz fusion. The legendary maestro was also invited by President Obama to the International Jazz Day 2016 All Star Global Concert at the White House. It’s not every day you come across an opportunity to witness someone like Ustad Zakir Hussain live.

Sharing the stage with him is another legend, Dr Jayanthi Kumaresh. A musical prodigy, she started playing the Veena at the age of three. Her family has been practicing Carnatic music for six generations, and music flows naturally through her veins. Having performed at many a music concerts around the world, her fame is acclaimed.

The melody of the Tabla and Veena will be accompanied by the tunes of the Violin played by genius violinist Kumaresh Rajagopalan. His refreshingly original content is like a breath of fresh air. Together, they’ll take the audience on a mesmerizing musical journey, unparalleled by any other. There might be a ton of events in Chennai, but not many give you a chance to spend an evening in the presence of musical brilliance. So get your tickets before it’s too late.
