The trailer of Arjun Rampal's much-awaited film of the year, 'Daddy', is out and the man has slayed it completely with his look as a gangster-turned-politician. Helmed by Ashim Ahluwalia, Daddy is based on the life of gangster-turned-politician-turned-convict, Arun Gawli, who once was amongst the most dreaded names in Mumbai. As evident in the trailer, Arjun Rampal , who is often criticised for his acting skills, has sunk his teeth deep into this role, which might turn out to be one of his best performances ever. The National Award winning actor was last seen playing a cop in Vidya Balan starrer, Kahaani 2.

Daddy is set in 1970s Bombay when the factories and mill workers turned to crime once the factories started getting shut down. The 2 minute 14 second trailer shows how three residents of Dagdi chawl, of which Arun Gawli (played by Arjun Rampal) is one, forms a gang and becomes one of the most notorious gangs of Mumbai. It covers how Arun Gawli turned into an MLA from a gangster. Going by the look and feel of the sleek and effective trailer, Daddy might turn out to be one of the most talked about films of the year.

Helmed by Miss Lovely fame director, Ashim Ahluwalia, Daddy is scheduled to release on July 21st. Apparently Arjun Rampal was roped in for this role because of his uncanny resemblance to Arun Gawli. While he is much taller than Gawli, prosthetics have been used to make him look exactly Gawli's height. The film will also see Farhan Akhtar in a small cameo as Dawood Ibrahim. The film has been shot at real locations in Mumbai and will cover Gawli’s life from his 20s to his 60s. Arun Gawli was regarded as Robin Hood by the residents of his neighbourhood, who lovingly call him Daddy. The film will also mark the Bollywood debut of Southern cinema actress Aishwarya Rajesh, who will be seen playing the role of Arun Gawli's wife.

Judging from the intriguing and intense trailer of the film, Daddy could be the best gangster saga to come out in years. Often written off for his lack of acting skill, Arjun Rampal has impressed us all with his terrific act as Arun Gawli in the well-cut trailer. The movie will be out in cinemas on July 21st.
