In a country like India, Bollywood is given a lot of importance and theatre often gets ignored. Film stars earn big bucks and are treated like God while theatre personalities don’t make as much and are unknown to many. But now with something like Disney’s Beauty and the Beast coming to India, people are suddenly more interested in watching theatre. There are so many plays in India, but very few match the grandeur of Beauty and the Beast.

Of course, the show is a big-budget one and is the first Broadway in India. The show will do a lot to boost the popularity of musicals in the country. Artists like Brian Tellis, Meher Mistry, Edwin Joseph and many others will be enacting the story. The makers managed to get Bollywood legend, Amitabh Bachchan to do the voiceover for the show’s prologue. Adding his name has made the show even bigger.

The organisers held an exclusive preview which was graced by the who’s who of Mumbai. Vidya Balan, Emraan Hashmi, Raveena Tandon were among the many others who were in attendance. They all praised the show and claimed that it is a must-watch not only for kids but adults too.

The musical had shows in Mumbai and is now coming to the capital city. Yes, people of Delhi can now watch this musical extravaganza. The shows will be held at the Thyagaraj Sports Complex on the 18th, 19th and 20th December.

For the uninitiated, Beauty and the Beast is one of the most famous childhood stories. If you haven't heard it while growing up then here’s a bit about it. It is a story of a man and his three daughters. The man leaves for some work and encounters a Beast. The beast puts a condition to set the man free, which is asking for his daughter’s hand. The rest of it is around the Beast and the girl. You’ll be hooked to know if the Beast kills her or if they get married and live happily together. There are different versions of the story where the ending differs, but all of them are equally interesting.

If you live in New Delhi, then this a must-watch. It is a spectacular play that matches international standards and is thoroughly entertaining.
