Vir Das Pajama Stand up Comedy Show
Written by Mansi Gupta

Probably India’s best known stand up comedian and actor, Vir Das has quickly established himself as one of Bollywood’s and the stand-up comedy fraternity’s funny man. The actor has already appeared in films like Go Goa Gone and Delhi Belly, and is slated to appear in Mastizaade as well. He has a number of gigs worldwide and recently started the Weirdass Pajama Festival in India. Das, never one to limit himself, is a standup comedian, a Bollywood actor, does stage shows and also performs in his comedy rock band, Alien Chutney.

One of his most memorable plays includes History of India, which received rave reviews when it premiered a few years ago. Another milestone in Das’s career was his show Battle of da Sexes, which was a take on the differences between men and women. Das explained the show, saying, “This act chronicles the differences between men and women but from a scientific point of view. It begins with the sexes’ approach towards language, goes onto analyzing their bodies and spots the differences between their vanities. Then it progresses into literature, music, movies and covers leadership, politics, business, crime, sex and commitment. The show is laced with scientific facts.”

Another show, more recent, that had Das in the limelight was Unbelievablish, which tells his own life stories, albeit some of them are untrue. Whoever manages to guess most of the stories as either true or false gets a full refund of their ticket! Das said when announcing Unbelievablish, “My concept for the show is very simple and interactive. I wanted to do something interesting where I could move away from a straight-jacketed stand-up show and get the audiences completely involved in it. Thus, through the course of the show, when they are not in splits, there is a continuous True/False meter ticking in their minds while identifying with my act and continuously evaluating them.” Das’s upcoming projects include the Bollywood film Mastizaade, which stars Tusshar Kapoor, fellow comedian Suresh Menon and former adult actress and Bollywood sensation Sunny Leone, and Santa Banta, which stars Boman Irani and Neha Dhupia.
