While announcing his grand tour, Rahman had said in a statement, “It has been an incredible journey over these last 25 years. Sometimes when I ponder I get goosebumps because the Almighty has been kind in giving me happiness that has only multiplied year after year.” He began his career with Mani Ratnam’s 1992 film ‘Roja’. Rahman is a recipient of many national and international awards and honours. He is a Padma Bhushan winner, the highest civilian award in India, which was conferred on him in 2010 by the Government of India. He has also received international recognition and acclaim in the form of two Academy Award wins as well as two Grammy awards.
A.R. Rahman, won the Academy Award in the categories ‘Best Original Score’ and ‘Best Original Song’ for the movie Slumdog Millionaire and was also nominated in these same categories for the movie 127 Hours. Interestingly, both films were directed by Danny Boyle. His two Grammy wins were also for the soundtrack for Slumdog Millionaire in the categories – ‘Best Compilation Soundtrack Album for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media’ and ‘Best Song Written for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media.’
