he time of the year is finally here where the Best from the Best have to be chosen. The biggest night of Hollywood and international cinema, the 89th Academy Awards celebrated the biggest and most appealing names in the movie business. The award ceremony was held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles and was graced by every popular name in the film industry from all over the world. The year that was, 2016, had some amazing movies to compete with each other, but as everyone expected La La Land again topped the charts with six awards in the end.

Emma Stone won the Best Leading Actress award for La La Land, while Casey Affleck bagged the Best Leading Actor statute for ‘Manchester by the Sea’. Damien Chazelle’s celebrated musical, La La Land’s dominance in the award show continued as the night went on, and its haul began piling up, winning awards for cinematography, production, score, and best song, “City of Stars”, too. The 32- year-old filmmaker also became the youngest to win the best director and said that he was lucky to fall in love while making the movie and after all the movie is all about love.

Barry Jenkins’ Moonlight competed hard with La La Land and as it turned out, won the Best Movie at the Academy Awards in a historic Oscar upset and an unprecedented snafu that saw one winner swapped for another while the winners were in mid-speech. Presenters Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway apparently took the wrong envelope onto the stage; one which was for best actress winner Emma Stone.

The Best Film Editing award went to Hacksaw Ridge, followed by the Best Visual Effects which went unarguably to The Jungle Book. Best Adapted Screenplay was won by ‘Moonlight’ and Best Original Screenplay by ‘Manchester By The Sea’. The film Zootopia won the Best Animated Feature and ‘The Salesman’ bagged the Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy Awards are selected by an academy of 6000 people who are filmmakers and film professionals which include directors, actors, cinematographers, editors and composers who anonymously vote for their top choices in each category. Do not forget to check out the latest news and and happenings in the Film Industry.
