After year-long speculations and a couple of posters over the last year, finally we got to see the much awaited trailer of the movie Half Girlfriend. The movie is based on the famous novel of Chetan Bhagat of the same name and somewhat follows the theme of ‘unrequited love’. The novel got a good response in the Indian market at least and the trailer looks quite a bit abrupt though. Maybe it’s because we have seen the lead, Arjun Kapoor, as the same Haryanvi accent guy in Tewar and Ishaqzaade. Also, the previous movie adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s novel, 2 States, of the same name had Arjun Kapoor and the trailer gives a feel of it’s extended version. This upcoming Bollywood movie which stars Shraddha Kapoor opposite Arjun is directed by Mohit Suri.
This bollywood romance drama has Arjun and Shraddha pairing up on the big screen for the first time and the two- minute long trailer gives an overview of their bittersweet love story. Arjun is seen playing Madhav Jha, a Bihari student who takes admission in one of the most coveted colleges of Delhi University, St. Stephens College. He is pursuing a Delhi girl, Riya Somani, played by Shraddha Kapoor, to be his girlfriend and both click over the game of basketball. But unfortunately, she takes up half the offer and becomes his half- girlfriend.
The music is given by one of the most versatile music composers of the industry, Mithoon . He is joined by Arko, Ami Mishra and the Pakistani singer, Farhan Saeed. The critically acclaimed Arijit Singh has sung a couple of songs for this upcoming movie and the trailer features the magical track, ‘Main Phir Bhi Tumko Chahunga’. It won’t be a surprise if the music does better than what the movie is expected to do and weave magic like Aashiqui 2 and Mohit Suri’s previous films.
This is the fifth big-screen adaptation of a Chetan Bhagat novel and has all the elements for a modern hit. It is a story about a young couple, the very important issue of English's supremacy over Hindi in academic circles, the uncertainties in relationships, and the part where chasing your dreams becomes the right thing to do. The tagline of the film is 'Dost Se Zyada, Girlfriend Se Kum' and it aptly describes the storyline. Chetan Bhagat has co-produced the film and 'Half Girlfriend' releases on May 19. So if you haven’t watched the trailer yet, click here and get yourself wooed like nothing before.
