With so many meaningful and sensible Bollywood films like Oh My God, Dangal and Dear Zindagi being helmed by the film makers, we know our film industry is in safe hands. Another film which is going to join this legion is Akshay Kumar's upcoming Hindi movie, Pad Man. Directed by R.Balki and produced by Twinkle Khanna, Pad Man is a biopic of India's “Menstruation Man”, Arunachalam Muruganantham. Pad Man will be Twinkle Khanna's debut production. While we are still in awe of Akshay's amazing line-up of films this year which includes 2.0, Crack, Gold and Toilet – Ek Prem Katha, Pad Man will surely add up to the excitement.

The movie is scheduled to release in December this year; here's all you need to know about it.

As the first poster of the film says, Pad Man is based on an extraordinary true story. It's based on the life and journey of Arunachalam Muruganantham who began the journey of finding a way to make cheap, affordable sanitary napkins for the women in his village and created an awareness about the traditional menstruation mechanisms at the grass root level. Based in Tamil Nadu, he invented the first low-cost sanitary pad making machine. Muruganantham is known as the Pad Man of India who was also named in the 100 Most Influential People in the World in 2016. He was even awarded Padma Shri by the Government of India for his society-benefiting endeavours.

Twinkle Khanna is all set to return to the film industry and this time as a producer. Pad Man is the first film under her banner, Mrs. FunnyBones Productions. She has roped in Akshay Kumar to play the lead role in her film and R.Balki to direct it.Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte are signed in opposite Akshay Kumar. While Sonam Kapoor will be seen portraying the role of a Tabla player, Radhika Apte will play the role of Akshay's wife in the film.

The film rolled on March 15 and few pics also surfaced on social media from the sets. The shooting is currently going on in Indore. Akshay has donned a common man’s avatar, and Radhika has perfected the look of a small-town belle. Quite interestingly, Akshay's upcoming film, Toilet – Ek Prem Katha, opposite Bhumi Pednekar, is also about hygiene and awareness in rural India and is on the lines of Swacch Bharat Abhiyan led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
