When was the last time you saw a movie made on the 1991 economic reform by the then government? There is a good chance you have not seen any such movie. Well, mostly because there were no movies made that explored this subject. But now we have one such movie that sets out to explore this very subject. And the subject matter is one with a lot of potential.

The movie that has set out to do this is Mantra . Starring Rajat Kapoor, Kalki Koechlin, Shiv Pandit and Adil Hussain, the plot of the movie delves into the economic reform that was brought about in 1991 and the ramifications of those reforms on local businesses.

With the forces of globalization unleashed onto the local businesses being brought on by the 1991 reform, the landscape starts to shift for all local players.

Over 10 years later, in the first decade of the 21st century, India celebrates its emergence as a global economic superpower but not all exult.

The plot of the movie is set in the year 2004, and while the story of the New India is one that everyone is boasting about, a businessman finds himself in the midst of a battle with a multi- national that seems to have taken over the entire market.

The protagonist, played by Rajat Kapoor, is the founder of an Indian snack brand. But, for the protagonist it is not only his brand that he is trying to save; his wife and children are going through a crisis of their own, which makes the situation all the more difficult for him to endure.

Mantra is a film that tries telling an intimate tale about a businessman and how policy reforms wreak havoc on his life. As a film, it promises to explore an issue that not many films have ventured into, and perhaps none will. It remains to be seen if all that the film promises to explore pans out well on the silver screen. But, if Rajat Kapoor's cinema history is to be taken into consideration, then more often than not, the man has starred in critically acclaimed movies.

The movie is slated to come out on the 17 th of March, 2017. Until then, to know more about the movie along with release data and movie trailer, visit our website.
