Baar Baar Dekho - Movie Still
Written by Mansi Gupta

What would you do if you get a chance to back into your past or a chance to peek into your future? You would definitely try to change some things and amend some decisions you have taken in the past. This is what the idea Nitya Mehra’s Baar Baar Dekho revolves around. The film, starring Sidharth Malhotra and Katrina Kaif in the lead roles, is essentially a love story stuck in a time wrap. The story unfolds through flash-backs and flash-forwards.

Baar Baar Dekho

Maths genius Jay Verma, played by Sidharth Malhotra, has a gift of time travel. He is a brilliant mathematician for whom love is important but not as much as his career. His childhood sweetheart Riya (Katrina Kaif) is an artist and is always vocal for her feelings for him. She doesn’t hesitate to make the first move, despite being rooted in family values. When Jay doesn’t reciprocate her feeling, she decides to get married to the man her parents have chosen for her. Unfortunately, Jai only understands his priorities and love towards Riya when she is about to get married. It is here that a time travel of sorts occurs. He goes back and forth in time and we are shown the crucial events in his life which include his relationship with Riya. This series of flash-backs and flash-forwards only teach him to love like there is no tomorrow.

Being a Dharma and Excel Entertainment film, Baar Baar Dekho looks good, in fact doubly good. Both the lead stars, Katrina Kaif and Sidharth Malhotra, look good together. They share an amazing screen chemistry. The exotic locations are lovely and so are the outfits of the characters. Cinematographer Ravi K Chandran gives every surface a sheen. Both Katrina and Sidharth impress us with their mature performance. It is also a pleasure to see strong actors like Sarika, Ram Kapoor and Rajit Kapur in the film. The debutant, Nitya Mehra, impresses with her direction skills.

Baar Baar Dekho opened this weekend to mixed reviews. Viewers like the sizzling jodi of Sidharth and Katrina. The film ends with the blockbuster dance number of Badshah, “Kala Chasma”. You will not be able to control your dancing feet when this number starts flashing on the screen. The film focuses on futuristic qualities, displays picturesque locations and of course great music. It manages to convey what it set out to put across i.e. one should focus on the smaller details in life. As a wise pundit rightly tells, badi baton pe nahin, chhoti baton pe dhyan do.
