When it’s Bollywood, there has to be romance. Where there is romance, there is almost always a love triangle. What happens when the triangle is far away from love? It conforms to a giant plot twist that gets all our attention. ‘Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety’ tells a tale of a best friend vs. the fiancé!
Have you ever disliked the girl your best friend likes? Have you ever felt like a third wheel? Yes? Then this is a movie you will definitely relate to.
The movie stars Kartik Aryan (Sonu), Sunny Singh (Titu) and Nushrat Bharucha (Sweety). Sonu and Titu are childhood buddies with Sonu being the saviour to Titu’s emotional and sometimes stupid character. Enter Sweety Sharma, the perfect ‘bahu’ material whom Titu instantly agrees to marry. Sonu is convinced that this is a ^too good to be true^ scenario and finds out that there is more to Sweety than she leads on. Sonu is hell bent on revealing Sweety’s true self and this sparks off a war between the best friend and Fiancé.
The casting of the characters works in the movie’s advantage. Kartik Aryan is a delight to watch as the possessive best friend, while Sunny Singh does complete justice to his naïve character. Nushrat is refreshing and snarky as Sweety. Alok Nath (Titu’s Grandfather) deserves a special mention as he breaks all stereotypes around his previous roles. He is here to give you a culture shock! The verbal spats between Sonu and Sweety are thoroughly funny and engaging.
Coming to the music, the recreated version of ‘Bom Diggy Diggy’ could surely be the next party anthem. ‘Dil Chori’ is a catchy dance number. But it is ‘Tera yaar hoon main’ that comes out as a pleasant surprise. On the flip-side the movie could drag a bit at few places. Also it does stereotype girls to a certain extent. But if you are up to watching it with a light heart, the movie is entertaining.
