2017 was a superhero movie centric year and boy, it delivered and how. The year started with Logan and Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2, then went on to Wonder Woman and Spiderman: Homecoming, and now has reached Thor Ragnarok. This movie is not short of the great superhero action and is an explosion of awesomeness spread over the runtime of 130 minutes. This Hollywood superhero film is directed by Taika Watiti who has successfully transformed the dark and intense set up of the Thor world with lighthearted fun and humour to fit in just flawlessly with the rest of MCU movies. Ragnarok in Thor lore and Norse mythology means the end of world, and the movie lives up to its title perfectly.
The movie starts with the Led Zeppelin’s Immigrant Song and Thor strangled in chains and the song is totally bringing back the badass feel from Iron Man to this superhero franchise. Talking about the colours, they are so amplified you can feel them for the first time with Thor getting the most screen space and making you all pumped up. Hulk going on and off from green to demonic reds in the fight scenes and an eerie black with Hela is surely exasperating. The audience is headbanging through Led Zep’s Immigrant Song as the God of Thunder appears in chains, held captive by the fire demon Surtur. Oscar-winner Cate Blanchett playing the first female villain in a Marvel movie, and apparently the firstborn of Odin, the Allfatherm makes a fantastic entry in the MCU movies. The antihero Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston, quite literally becomes everyone’s favourite and is a gem on screen.
The writing is just too polished and the script is filled with timely packed one-liners and dialogues that make you laugh repeatedly. Mark Ruffalo is as witty as always and he switches from the naive Dr. Banner to the big green smashing Hulk as effortlessly as Blanchett transforms herself into a dark soulless being born to conquer the world. Two of the major highlight points about the movie is the distribution of time space among all the characters in the movie, and the other being the two post-credit scenes which we got after the movie. This movie doesn’t have Avengers but yes they have Revengers (yes, that’s what they call themselves) which comprises Thor, Loki, Valkyrie and Hulk.
