Death is an equalizer and does not differentiate. While the brain understands this, the heart still gets heavy when we hear of our favorite artist’s passing. The year 2018 claimed a few of our gems and here we remember them fondly. These Bollywood deaths have broken our hearts and we pray their souls rest in peace.

Sridevi

In 2013, the Padma Shri award was bestowed upon this talented actress after giving one powerful performance after the other throughout her career spanning decades. Sridevi is one of the very few female actors to have a thriving career that spans that long. At a rather young age of 54, Sridevi passed away in Dubai in her bathtub due to accidental drowning. Her funeral was held in Mumbai and people turned up in thousands to pay their respects to this extremely talented actor.

Rita Bhaduri

A very talented actress who featured in films and TV in multiple languages, Rita Bhaduri left a huge body of work behind her. An FTII alumni, Rita Bhaduri was active through the 80s and 90s. This 62-year-old actor passed away due to kidney ailments at Sujoy Hospital, Mumbai.

Sujatha Kumar

Another actor who played her roles with finesse passed away in 2018. You may remember Sujatha Kumar from her most recent release English Vinglish. The news of her death was broken by her sister Suchitra Krishnamoorthi on social media and it left us shocked.

Shammi

Originally Nargis Rabadi and fondly known as Shammi or Shammi aunty, you’d recognize her from Dekh Bhai Dekh and other comic capers, mainly from the 90s. With an unparalleled comic timing and real chops for acting, Shammiji was a household name in the 90s. She passed away at the age of 88.

Srivallabh Vyas

This Bollywood death really left everyone shaken as Srivallabh Vyas was a common household name. After being a part of content-driven as well as entertaining films such as Sarfarosh, Lagaan and Shool, he was taken away at the age of 60 years. He was also a theatre veteran and will be sorely missed.
