After playing the role of Raja Rawal Ratan Singh in the much controversial movie Padmavati, Shahid Kapoor will portray a lawyer in the upcoming Hindi movie Batti Gul Meter Chalu. Toilet: Ek Prem Katha director Shree Narayan Singh will be awakening the social/civic conscience of the audiences with this Hindi movie. Movies with social messages are doing big in the industry as of now and no director is leaving the chance of utilising it to the fullest.
Themed around rising electricity charges and escalated billing in many parts of India, the movie stars Shahid Kapoor. There have been various strong speculations around the casting of the actress opposite him and according to a report by Mumbai Mirror, Ileana D’Cruz is being considered for the role. This Baadshaho actress will be filling the shoes as a lawyer as well. In spite of having one female lead in the film, actresses like Katrina Kaif and Shraddha Kapoor are still in contention for the role.
The film’s teaser was released during Diwali this year. And the director Narayan Singhhas revealed why the festival of lights was chosen for the teaser launch. He said, “Diwali makes it just the right occasion for us to shed light on a subject that needs to be discussed. We look forward to making a film that is both commercially entertaining and encourages a social conversation.”
This movie will start the production stage on 19 January next year and will be shot in places like Haridwar, Rishikesh, Tehri, Mussoorie and Nainital.
