Bollywood movies are known for their entertainment value. Over the years there have been many great Bollywood movies in every genre – whether it’s serious drama, light comedy, or something entirely different such as fantasy. Bollywood fantasy movies features something that’s not quite real but present it to us a realistic way. This includes everything from ghosts to a whole new realm that might exist beyond ours. It’s usually Hollywood that is known for its grand production values, but India is not far behind now with more access to special effects and larger budgets for fantasy movies. Jajantaram Mamantaram

Based on the tale of Bakasura and Jonathan Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels, this film was a comedy with Javed Jaffrey in the lead. In the film, Jaffrey’s character, Aditya, finds himself in a magical land with tiny people and has to help defeat the giant, Jhamunda.

Bhootnath

Based on Oscar Wilde’s The Canterville Ghost, Bhootnath starred Amitabh Bachchan in the lead role as the ghost and also had Shahrukh Khan and Juhi Chawla in the cast. This film is about a young boy who befriends a ghost and it was so successful that there was even a sequel.

The sequel to Bhootnath, Bhootnath Returns was an even bigger success than the first film. Carrying a positive political message of encouraging people to vote, the film was even supported by the Election Commission of India. Besides Amitabh Bachchan reprising his role of Bhootnath, the film also starred Boman Irani and many talented young child actors.

Another film with a ghost, this one had Anushka Sharma playing the ghost and Diljit Dosanjh, Suraj Sharma, and Mehreen Pirzada in prominent roles. Phillauri was not just a comedy, but also had a touching love story.
