A comedy-drama directed by the Rajkumar Hirani; this was Irani’s breakthrough in the mainstream cinema. He played the role of the arrogant Mr Asthana. The movie went on to receive great critical acclaim and put Irani in the limelight for the movie.

  • 3 idiots (2009)

 

A coming of age drama comedy, 3 idiots, is a critically acclaimed film revolving around the social pressures of the education system in India and the toll it takes on the students working hard to stay at the top. The movie was on the basis of the bestselling novel by Chetan Bhagat. This movie received critical acclaim not only in India but also abroad. Boman Irani played the role of the Dean of the engineering college, who was a punctual man firmly believing in discipline and importance of always staying on the top of your game. This role gave Irani critical acclaim.

  • Housefull (2010)

 Directed by Sajid Khan, Housefull is a comedy movie which was a massive success around the country. The movie features Irani as a Gujarati man, Batuk Patel, who is Lara Dutta’s onscreen father and is a comic relief in the movie.

  • Happy New Year (2014)

 A comedy-drama-action movie, the movie features an ensemble cast, with Boman Irani playing the role of an older bachelor, who is a heartthrob amongst the elder ladies. He is an excellent locksmith and is the only one who can open the lock created by Anupam Kher’s character on screen. The movie was released in India and Dubai and grossed over 4 billion.

  • PK (2014)

A satirical comedy challenging the religious superstitions and baseless dogmas based around religion, PK was directed by Rajkumar Hirani and is the first Indian movie to gross more than 7 billion dollars. Boman played the role of the head of the journalism department where Anushka Sharma’s character was working.
