Bollywood on the Battlefield: Check Out The Most Memorable War Films

Bollywood has given us an overwhelming amount of action-thrillers over the years. But the ones that always seem to stand out are the ones based on the trials of the battlefield. We live in a time that is full of hostility and conflict, and it is great to see it reflected on the big screen.

Here are some of the best Bollywood war films that are still fresh in our minds:

Border (1997)

Directed by  J.P Dutta, Border is based on the Battle of Longewala during the 1971 Indo-Pakistan War. This real-life adaptation features a star-studded cast including Sunny Deol, Sunil Shetty, Akshaye Khanna, Jackie Shroff, and Tabu.

LOC: Kargil (2003)

Directed by J.P. Dutta, LOC Kargil is based on the true rendering of the 1999 India-Pakistan battle known as the Kargil War. It features a  massive cast including Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgan, Saif Ali Khan, Sunil Shetty, Akkineni Nagarjuna, Rani Mukerji, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Esha Deol, Raveena Tandon, and more.

Directed by Milan Luthria and starring Amitabh Bachchan and Sanjay Dutt among others, Deewaar tells the untold story of the repercussions of war. It follows the turbulent lives of the prisoners of war in a Pakistani army prison

Tango Charlie (2005)

Directed by Uday Khunti, Tango Charlie features Ajay Devgn, Bobby Deol, Sanjay Dutt, and Sunil Shetty in the lead. The film is based on the story of one Indian soldier Tarun Chauhan as he gets stationed on four different battlefields around the country.

Airlift (2016)

Directed by Raja Krishna Menon, Airlift features Akshay Kumar and Nimrat Kaur in the lead. In the National Award-winning film, a Kuwait based businessman (Akshay Kumar) carries out the evacuations of Indians during the 1990 invasion of Kuwait city by Saddam Hussein’s Iraq.

Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, Rangoon features Saif Ali Khan, Shahid Kapoor and Kangana Ranaut in the lead roles. It tells a tale of love and betrayal, set in a time of the overlooked history of war with great aesthetics and detailing.
