Boman Irani, an outstanding artist with diverse happy-go-lucky and antagonist roles, shows his versatile craft in every other film. His skills are rooted in theater, and he makes it apparent in every unique performance of his, be it as Dr. Asthana in Munna Bhai or as Prof. Viru Sahastrabuddhe aka Virus in 3 Idiots.
Boman believes the credibility of his character comes along with a huge amount of practice, a feat learnt at Theater. A photographer, so entertaining in person, lead choreographer and singer Shiamak Davar noticed his hilarious antics behind the camera and referred him to theater personality Alyque Padamsee for his English plays.
Spotted by Vidhu Vinod Chopra in one of the plays, Boman Irani was offered his first Hindi film Munna Bhai when he was 44 years old. He stood out in the ensemble with his brilliant comic timing and persona, and has gone on to do many entertaining films thereafter.
Boman works hard to deliver a character which gives the audience their money’s worth and alongside lots to laugh about. Boman will next be seen in a film titled ‘Jhalki’ where he plays the Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi highlighting socially relevant issues of child labor and exploitation.
Boman believes his characters need to be socially responsible, happy and joyful in nature, if the character demands the same; else his antagonist role was much appreciated and hated in 3 Idiots for its innate need to dominate and impose views.
