Deepika Padukone Wasn’t Invited For The Casting of Beyond The Clouds, Says Majid Majidi

A picture of a demure-looking Deepika Padukone along with the iconic Iranian director Majid Majidi had gone viral in 2016. News was that Deepika Padukone was giving a screen test for Majidi’s then work-in-progress film, Beyond the Clouds.

During the trailer launch of the film, Majidi told the media:

“We did not call Deepika for the casting of the film but putting her in a situation to the get the essence of the story… Unfortunately, we could not collaborate on the film. We would like to thank her and hope to collaborate in near future.” – Majid Majidi

Beyond The Clouds stars Shahid Kapoor’s brother Ishaan Khattar as Amir. He won the Best Actor award at the International Bosphorus Film Festival in Turkey.

Malayalam actress Malavika Mohan also stars in this Majid Majidi directed movie. The music is composed by the two-time Academy Award winning composer A.R. Rahman.

The movie is based on the life of Amir who gets involved in the trafficking of drugs and the consequences his actions have on his loved ones.

When asked about why he opted to make an Indian film in an Indian setting, he replied:

“I think I have learnt a lot about Indian culture through Indian films, especially the work of legendary director Satyajit Ray. So, it was my dream to make a film in his land India. As a filmmaker, his viewpoint, his style of storytelling is always very important for me. That was one of the main reason and motivation for me to make a film in India.” – Majid Majidi

Beyond The Clouds is set to release on March 23rd 2018.
