Ever since Karan Johar announced that he would be remaking Sairat in Hindi, fans of the Nagraj Manjule film were displeased. After all, Sairat was a very important film in Marathi cinema, discussing various issues like caste discrimination and gender stereotypes. Naturally, people felt that KJo is not the right person for the job, since his movies are highly lavish and adhering to the upper classes.
What made the fans angrier was that Shahid Kapoor’s younger brother, Ishaan Khatter, and Sridevi’s daughter, Jahnvi Kapoor, were chosen to play the lead roles in the film. The trailer of the film released last month to mixed reviews. Fans of Bollywood were excited to see the young kids take their first steps in the film industry, while Sairat fans were once again left disappointed.
The trailer of Dhadak shows how similar it is to its original film. Moreover, the popular song from Sairat – Zingaat – has been remade in Hindi for the film. We get a glimpse of the song in the trailer and now, the official video has been released on YouTube.
Naturally, this was the last straw for Sairat fans, who have taken to social media to slam the remake. Many felt that the new song lacked the ‘zing’ of Zingaat. The original song does have a sense of energy that probably only Ranveer Singh might be able to match. In Dhadak, however, there is a sense of charm that you only see in Karan Johar films, as compared to the raw energy of Sairat. Like it or not, Zingaat from Dhadak is the top trending song on YouTube right now. In case you want to take a look at the original version, here it is:
