The entire country woke up to the shocking demise of Sridevi on Sunday 24th Feb. While many hoped the news to be a rumor, this sadly turned out to be true. Sridevi was in Dubai to attend the wedding celebrations of nephew Mohit Marwah. While her family flew back to Mumbai, she stayed longer in the UAE to meet her sister Srilatha.
On the previous day, her husband Boney Kapoor flew down to surprise her; they chatted for about 15 minutes in her hotel room and even planned a dinner date. She headed for a quick bath and when she hadn’t returned 15 minutes later, her husband forced open the door to find her body motionless. She was declared dead by paramedics at around 9 pm, having succumbed to a massive heart attack.
The industry has been in shock ever since; colleagues, co-workers and well-wishers have been sharing stories about the last time they met her, and the fond work memories they have shared. It is rather shocking to know how unpredictable and short life can be, and how easily we take it for granted. Little did Sridevi know this would be her last vacation with her family!
Cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar expressed, “We all grew up watching her and suddenly to hear that she is no longer with us, it’s hard to digest.”
Hema Malini, Sridevi’s admirer and industry senior also shared her feelings:
Sridevi’s sudden passing away has left me in deep shock. Can’t imagine how such a bubbly person, a wonderful actor, is no more. She has left a void in the industry that cannot be filled. Boney is a good friend & I’ve seen their daughters grow up. My prayers are with the family🙏
