Written by Rochell Pereira

Ever since Dadasaheb Phalke’s Raja Harishchandra in 1913, Bollywood has been churning out tons of cinematic masterpieces. Entertainment has come a long way from silent or black and white films to brilliantly engineered fantasy films. Over the years countless old Bollywood films have cemented their place as unforgettable classics. Let’s take a walk down memory lane with some classic old Bollywood films from each decade:

Mughal-e-Azam (1960)

With this supremely ambitious work of art, director K. Asif took his obsession for perfection to a whole new level. The film remains as a spectacularly grand Bollywood classic to this day.

Sholay (1975)

Featuring some of the most legendary characters played by iconic Bollywood actors, this film went down in cinematic history. Its unforgettable dialogues are regularly quoted even today.

Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro (1983)

Director Kundan Shah’s most celebrated work, this dark satire took the corrupt Indian administration and political system head on. This comedy is unlike any other before it or after it.

Andaz Apna Apna (1994)

This cult classic is the perfect example of a truly hilarious comedy of errors. The iconic characters of Amar and Prem with Teja and Crime Master Gogo are still a prominent part of Indian pop culture.
