17 years ago, a drop-dead handsome guy made his Bollywood debut and become the heartthrob of the nation overnight! Hrithik Roshan, with his first movie, Kaho Na Pyaar Hai in 2000, ruled the box office like never before. And nothing has changed since. He is still ruling the tinsel town and is considered the hottest property of Bollywood. His twinkling green eyes, winsome smile and a lean and chiseled body just like a Greek god have earned him a great fan following all around the world.

Though he was born with a silver spoon, his journey to stardom has been fraught with challenges. From Kaho Na Pyaar Hai to Mohenjo Daro, Hrithik has come a long way.

As the actor celebrates his 42nd birthday today, let’s look at some lesser known facts about him, which you might not have known. Here’s to Duggu!

1. We all know that Hrithik made his Bollywood debut with the movie Kaho Na Pyaar Hai in 2000, and the movie made him an overnight star. But what we didn’t know was that it was not the first time he was seen on screen. Actually, he made his acting debut when he was just 6 years old when he was cast as an extra in a dance sequence for the movie Aasha in 1980. Amazed? So were we!

2. Hrithik used to be a chain smoker. And we all know how difficult it is to quit this bad habit. But Hrithik quit smoking after reading this book, “How to Stop Smoking”. And he was so impressed with this book that he purchased 50 copies of it and distributed it amongst his smoker friends to help them get rid of this bad habit.

3. We all know how fabulous he is as an actor, but did you know that he is equally amazing in Photography. He has this personal scrapbook where he documents his daily life in pictures.

4. He is the only actor who has got both the Best Actor and Best Debut Actor Award for the same film, Kaho Na Pyaar Hai, in 2003. In fact, this movie entered the Limca Book Of World Records for winning 102 Awards, which is the most number of Awards by any Bollywood movie.

5. Did you know Hrithik was offered the role of Akshay Khanna’s Sid in Dil Chahta Hai by Farhan Akhtar and also he was the first choice to play Shah Rukh Khan’s role in Don (apparently he appeared in a cameo role in Don). He was also offered Swades and Siddharth’s role in Rang De Basanti.
