Sonam Kapoor, the ultimate fashion diva of Bollywood, has won hearts of many by her impeccable dressing style. The daughter of actor Anil Kapoor, Sonam is labeled by the media as one of the most fashionable Indian celebrities. But it is not just her fashion statement she gets praise for; this year she received the National Award for her brilliant performance in Neerja.

Sonam started her career with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s romantic epic ‘Saawariya’ opposite Ranbir Kapoor in the year 2007. Although the movie didn’t create much buzz at the box office, Sonam’s performance earned her a nomination for the Filmfare Best Female Debut Award. After a gap of two years, she was seen in Rakesh Omprakash Mehra’s ‘Dilli 6’ opposite Abhishek Bachchan. Again the film flopped at the box office but she received immense critical acclaim for her performance and it proved to be a turning point in her career.

Her first Bollywood success came with the film ‘I Hate Luv Storys’ opposite Imran Khan. Her look and chemistry with Imran Khan was praised a lot. Critics stated that the ease and class with which she carried the glam look was fantastic. Next big movie which did wonders for Sonam’s career was ‘Aisha’ with Abhay Deol. More than her acting prowess in this movie, she was talked about for her dressing sense and style.

In 2011, Sonam appeared in two movies, ‘Thank You’ and ‘Mausam’. Both the films were critical failures at the box office. However, it was not movies that year, rather her appearance at the Cannes Film Festival representing L’Oreal, the brand she endorses in India, that made her hog the limelight. Next year also she made a memorable appearance at the Cannes Film Festival, representing L’Oreal.

Movies like ‘Raanjhanna’ and ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ in the year 2013 got her acclaim for her acting skills. These movies were commercial successes at the box office. Sonam’s biggest success to date is Neerja, a biographical thriller based on the life of Pan Am air hostess, Neeja Bhanot. Sonam portrayed Neerja on screen and won many hearts with her superb performance. The film, as well as Sonam, won National Awards this year.

As the actress turns a year older today, we wish her luck and success in her upcoming film this year, Veere Di Wedding, with Kareena Kapoor Khan.
