Hosted by Karan Johar and Riteish Deshmukh, the biggest Bollywood stars came together at the Indian International Film Awards 2018 to celebrate the best of Bollywood in Bangkok. And, as you can imagine, it was nothing short of a grand spectacle.
The showstopper of the night had to be Rekha, who performed live on stage after 20 years, taking the audience back to the golden years of Hindi cinema. Bobby Deol, who recently made a comeback to the big screen after a gap of five years with Race 3, performed on the film’s song Party Chale On. Among others, the show also featured performances from Varun Dhawan, Ranbir Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor, and Shraddha Kapoor.
The Vidya Balan-starrer Tumhari Sulu won the Best Picture award while the other top honours of the night went to Sridevi and Irrfan Khan. Sridevi was posthumously awarded the Best Female Actor in a Leading Role for her part in Mom. Her husband, Boney Kapoor, received the trophy for her. Irrfan Khan, who is currently recuperating from a Neuroendocrine Tumour, won the Best Male Actor in a Leading Role for Hindi Medium. His Haider co-star Shraddha Kapoor received the award on his behalf.
Hindi Medium also celebrated another big win as the Best Director award went to Saket Chaudhary. The award for the Best Female Supporting Actor went to Zaira's co-star from Secret Superstar Meher Vij. Nawazuddin Siddiqui won the Best Male Supporting Actor award for his performance in Mom, which he dedicated to his co-star Sridevi as he accepted the award from veteran star Rekha.
The IIFA Awards paid tribute to late actors Sridevi and Shashi Kapoor. And Anupam Kher, who has over 500 films to his credit, was also honoured with with the Outstanding Achievement Award for his considerable contribution to the field.
