After a cameo in Bombay Velvet in 2015, Raveena Tandon returns to the big screen in a film titled Maatr. The film is written by Michael Pellico and directed by Ashtar Sayed and brings the spotlight on the rampant rape incidents in Delhi. It also shows how the police and the judiciary system in India fail to bring the culprits to book in the face of such a violence against women. Maatr is all set to hit the theatres on 21st of April.
Maatr is a revenge thriller which tells the tale of a mother, played by Raveena Tandon, who is out to get justice for her daughter after Judiciary and Police fail to deliver her daughter justice. Raveena’s daughter is brutally raped and murdered in the film. She stands up to the criminals who destroyed her daughter Tia’s life. However, in her fight to get justice for her daughter, she finds herself standing alone with no support from the society, the law and her husband, who only want to move on past the incident.
The trailer of Maatr, which was released a few weeks ago, created quite a buzz amongst viewers. Raveena looks so fierce. The almost three-minute-long trailer looks bold, intense and moving, and shows daring-mother Raveena like we’ve never seen her before. The trailer ends on a chilling note by stating “While you were watching the trailer, a girl was raped somewhere in the country. Time to think. Time to act.”
The film is set in North India and is being shot mostly in parts of Delhi and Haryana. The film also features Madhur Mittal, Divya Jagdale, Anurag Arora, Shailender Goyal, Alisha Khan and Rushad Rana in important roles. The film is scheduled to release on Friday, 21st of April. After Maatr, Raveena Tandon will be seen in Onir’s film, titled Shab.
