The 65th National Film Awards were held in New Delhi at the Vigyan Bhavan on May 3 2018. President Ramnath Kovind and Information & Broadcast Minister, Smriti Irani honoured the prestigious recipients of the award.
After a tragic demise two months ago, Sridevi was awarded the Best Actress Award for the revenge saga, Mom. Sridevi’s daughter Janhvi and Khushi Kapoor and her husband Boney Kapoor accepted the prestigious title on behalf of the late actress.
The movie Mom released in 2017 and saw Sridevi portray the role of a mother who sets out to seek revenge for her daughter’s rape. After the ceremony, Janhvi Kapoor gave a statement to the press on behalf of the late actress and her family. She was quoted saying:
Janhvi Kapoor who will be seen in the upcoming drama, Dhadak wore one of her mother’s saree for the occasion. Designer Manish Malhotra took to social media to describe it as an emotional and a precious moment.
Speaking to the press, Boney Kapoor said, “She would have been happy, very happy being here. We feel elated, proud that she’s been recognized for the hard work she’s put in in this film.” Before the ceremony, he said:
Assamese Film Village Rockstars, bagged the National Award for Best Film. Riddhi Sen was awarded the Best Actor Award for his performance in the Bengali film Nagar Kirtan. Rajkummar Rao’s Newton won Best Hindi Film Award. Baahubali: The Conclusion won in three categories. Vinod Khanna who passed away last year was awarded with the Dadasahed Phalke Award – India’s highest film honour.
