Nawazuddin Siddiqui is one of the few actors in Bollywood who can get into the skin of any character he plays. He has consistently delivered top-notch performances, whether he is playing a high-profile gangster (Gangs of Wasseypur, Babumoshai Bandookbaaz) or a regular criminal (Monsoon Shootout, Raman Raghav). He also has the ability to draw the attention away from lead actors like Shah Rukh Khan (Raees) and Salman Khan (Bajrangi Bhaijaan). He is doing some exciting work in the film industry right now and has two important biopics coming up – Thackeray, based on the infamous political leader, and Manto, which celebrates the life of the Indo-Pakistani author of the early 20th century.
Manto recently premiered at the acclaimed Cannes Film Festival, where it received huge applause. The film is directed by veteran actress Nandita Das, and features a cast of the best in the industry, including Paresh Rawal, Rishi Kapoor, Rasika Dugal as the author’s wife, Tahir Raj Bhasin as film star Shyam Chadda, and Shashank Sunny Arora. Meanwhile, a poster and teaser have been revealed for audiences in India, who eagerly await the release of this biopic.
While the film is slated to hit theatres later this year, no official release date has been announced yet. Needless to say, we are excited about Manto, especially after the teaser shows us a whole new side to the troubled author’s life. Manto’s works have greatly influenced theatre across India, and watching the legend’s life play out in a film is exactly what Indian cinema needs right now.
